When Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D was announced and the cast was unveiled one of the first things people noticed was that Agent Coulson was on the roster.

Those who watched the Avengers movie were well aware that the character played by Clark Gregg had died a pretty painful and sad death.

The character had made an appearance in every “Phase One” Marvel movie for at least a few minutes and his dry wit and low key approach had made him a fan favorite.

It made sense that the show would want the actor on its cast but there were questions as to how Joss Whedon and company was going to pull it off.

New Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D rumblings have offered up spoilers as to how he’s coming back for the series. We can all thank our lucky stars that the explanation isn’t as hamfisted as simply ignoring what happened in the movie.

Unfortunately, it appears that the way they are bringing him back isn’t a whole lot better. Read no further if you want to be “surprised.”

According to numerous reports, it seems that Gregg’s character faked his death along with Nick Fury’s cooperation as a way to spur the feuding superheroes to form a team.

After having to hold his breath in order to fake out people who didn’t have clearance to know about the ruse, he was moved to a secure location until things died down.

While this might seem like a sort of annoying cop out on its face, there was at least a hint that Fury was playing up the death by throwing bloody Captain America trading cards onto the table where the heroes were gathered.

Fury claims that the cards were still in the slain agent’s pocket when he died. After the group leaves, Agent Maria Hill (Colbie Smulders) challenges Fury’s (Samuel L. Jackson) account saying that she knew the cards were in Coulson’s locker.

Fury responds that he felt the team needed “a push.”

Does the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D explanation of Agent Coulson’s resurrection satisfy you?
