Adam Levine wants kids. Lots of kids. The popular Voice coach and Maroon 5 frontman got married in July, getting hitched to Namibia-born Victoria’s Secret model Behati Prinsloo, who is 10 years his junior. And now, Levine says, Prinsloo will have her work cut out for her off of the runway — because Levine wants a huge family.
“I love kids so much” Levins told an interviewer for E! Online . “I love seeing kids on the set, too.”
So how many kids does that love translate into for the “Moves Like Jagger” singer? Well, he is going to need much better moves even than Jagger to achieve the goal he’s set for himself. While Rolling Stones frontman and rock ‘n’ roll legend Mick Jagger is the father of seven children by four different women, Adam Levine is presumably planning to sire all of his kids with his new wife — and that’s going to take some effort. On her part.
Levine told the E! interviewer that he is targeting a goal of 17 kids.
“Is that reasonable?” he then asked.
The number is at least significantly lower than the estimate he gave American Idol host and radio personality Ryan Seacrest in an August on-air interview, just a month after he and Prinsloo tied the knot in the resort town of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
“I want to have 100 kids. I want to have more kids than would be socially responsible,” Levine told Seacrest. “I don’t know when we’re going to do it. We can’t do it right now. I think it’s absolutely in the works for some future date.”
Prinsloo, who is only 25 and just seeing her career as a model kick into high gear, when an interviewer asked her about bearing children with Levine, she simply smiled and said, “I’m really excited for that time in my life to come.”
In other words — not now.
While triple-digit children may be out of reach for Levine, if he wants to father anywhere near 17 he likely can’t wait too long . The singer is already 35, and research suggests that Levine’s current age is when men, on average, begin to experience a decrease in the quality of their sperm.
Infertility in men rises after age 35, as does the risk of defects and disease in an older man’s offspring. Levine and Prinsloo say they want to wait before starting this large family.
Assuming that Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo wait five years, he will be 40 when he fathers his first child and assuming that Prinsloo can pump out kids at a rate of one per year, Levine will be 57 by the time he reaches his goal of 17 kids.
