AC/DC news is both good and bad for fans of the legendary rock band.

While the band has denied the growing rumors that they are breaking up after 40 years, they did announce that founding member Malcolm Young will be taking a break due to his health.

AC/DC announced the news on their official Facebook page :

“After forty years of life dedicated to AC/DC, guitarist and founding member Malcolm Young is taking a break from the band due to ill health. Malcolm would like to thank the group’s diehard legions of fans worldwide for their never-ending love and support.

“In light of this news, AC/DC asks that Malcolm and his family’s privacy be respected during this time. The band will continue to make music.”

This ends the rumors that AC/DC was breaking up, though music insiders pointed out that the report itself seemed flimsy. The breakup rumor came from a thinly sourced Australian report, which noted simply that Malcolm Young was leaving the group.

“He is believed to be unable to continue playing, although there has not been any explanation why,” the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

But the report itself noted that AC/DC was booked in a recording studio in Vancouver for six weeks starting in May, and sources told Billboard at the time that they were “unaware of any break-up or change.”

Brian Johnson gave more insight to the AC/DC news, saying that the band is aiming to get the creative juices flowing at the extended studio session next month.

“We’re going to pick up some guitars, have a plonk, and see if anybody has got any tunes or ideas,” he told the The Daily Telegraph “ If anything happens, we’ll record it.”

The band’s frontman has another bit of juicy AC/DC news that quashes any rumors of a breakup. He said the band has been looking into the idea of a 40th anniversary tour, saying, “We would love to do it. But it’s all up in the air at the moment.”
