Abigail Breslin Goes Dark In New Trailer For ‘Perfect Sisters’

Abigail Breslin has come a long way from the days she was known as Little Miss Sunshine. Over the last year Breslin has taken steps to make sure that she’s growing up quickly including appearing in rather risque photo shoot.

In a move to further distance herself from the goodie-goodie image that brought her stardom, Breslin’s latest project is one in which she plays one half of a murderous pair of siblings. A new trailer for Perfect Sisters has surfaced this week and it shows Abigail in a brand new light.

The trailer starts off happy and flowery enough you might think Breslin had found herself in a teen version of her most famous film. The trailer shows a story that rapidly spirals into a very dark place as she and her sister (played by Georgie Henley) have to endure an alcoholic mother and an abusive stepfather.

After Abigail Breslin and her on screen sister go through a number of relapses with their mother (played by Mira Sorvino) until they apparently can’t take it anymore. Breslin and Henley’s characters hatch a plot to kill their mom and making it look like an accident.

Abigail’s newest film is even darker considering that it is based on a true story. Comingsoon.net points out the story is based on Toronto’s “Bathtub Girls.” The trailer doesn’t show exactly what happens to Breslin and Henley but the original case involved the girls including too many of their friends in the plot to stage an accidental drowning.

In the true story, the girls’ guilt becomes to much to bear and they end up telling too many people and rumors and whispers eventually reach the ears of Toronto police.

Abigail’s latest project probably won’t erase the memory of Little Miss Sunshine from the minds of her most devoted fans, but Breslin’s appearance in the trailer certainly shows a different type of girl. Gone is the shy ugly duckling that made her famous and in her place is an outgoing teenager who seems to actually revel in the fame the case brings at one point.

Perfect Sisters isn’t getting a wide release just yet, though Abigail Breslin will get to show off her talents in New York and Los Angeles on April 11. It should be noted that Little Miss Sunshine wasn’t a move that got instant worldwide love either. Like this film, Abigail Breslin’s work had to recognized as great by a small audience before it took off.
