Michelle Ghent says her marriage with Terrence Howard was doomed from the start, claiming the actor started abusing her just one week after their 2011 wedding.

Howard and Ghent divorced in May, but details of the case came out this week with allegations of abuse from both sides. Michelle Ghent claims that Howard abused her during a trip to Central America with some members of his family, saying he “beat her badly,” TMZ reported .

Michelle claims Howard tried to throw her from a balcony, and hit her in the face so hard that she chipped her tooth on his wedding ring.

Howard accuses Ghent of spraying him and his adult daughter with Mace, but sources close to the situation say one or both parties may be exaggerating the incident.

There are other allegations against Ghent. Howard says what started as a “normal married fight” ended with Ghent threatening to kill him and his family.

This week Howard responded to the claims, denying any abuse and painting Michelle Ghent as someone in need of help.

“Unfortunately I’ve tried to help people and it’s not necessarily in the same enlightened path, of trying to help themselves,” Howard told Entertainment Tonight.

He added, “I just wish the best for her, but as far as me harming somebody… I really can’t harm a fly. It’s completely against my spirit, but I’m so heartbroken, that you can see that doing it on a night like this is only for an attempt to try and hurt me.”

Some of the evidence against Michelle Ghent was expected to come out in court, where she is seeking a restraining order. This includes some threatening text messages she reportedly sent to Howard.

TMZ reported some of the text messages, which read:

“I would start hiding if I were u.”

Michelle Ghent is accused of sending increasingly threatening messages, warning Howard to “be careful” when he leaves his home.

“I know where u and ur family live. Watch yourself (sic),” she wrote in one, TMZ claims.

Another text spelled out the threat even more clearly: “You need to be put down once and for all. I will not stop until all knows who u are.”

Michelle Ghent is now seeking a restraining order against Terrence Howard.
