Star Wars will debut its next Disney helmed film in 2015, and, in the meantime, the Star Wars Rebels animated series will show up in 2014.

A one-hour pilot for Star Wars Rebels is already in the works. The animated feature will bridge the gap between Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith and the original 1977 film, Episode IV: A New Hope .

The animated feature debut will air on the Disney channel in Autumn 2014 before making its way to a regular slot on Disney XD.

After George Lucas first announced plans to create a series that spans the 19-year gap between the prequel trilogy and the original trilogy, fans have been waiting patiently for the project to arrive.

While Star Wars Rebels was originally proposed as a live-action series, it will instead be produced as a computer generated series.

LucasFilm, now owned by Disney, recently released a video from early production. As it turns out Disney already has respected animators working on the project. Among Star Wars Rebels staff are Gargoyles creator Greg Weisman and art director Killian Plunkett. If the former name sounds familiar, that’s because he worked on the original Star Wars animated series The Clone Wars.

Also working on Star Wars Rebels in Simon Kinberg; he also serves as an executive producer for Star Wars Episode VII .

We couldn’t be more excited for Disney’s quick work to bring more Star Wars products to market. As recently reported, fans even have a chance to have a 3D stormtrooper created with their own likeness .

Are you excited to watch Star Wars Rebels , or is the next Star Wars movie the only sci-fi event currently on your radar?
