Seattle Seahawk s backup quarterback Josh Portis was pulled over and arrested around 9:30 PM on Cinco de Mayo, May 5, but the incident is only being widely reported now that his arraignment date is approaching on May 28.
According to The Seattle Times Seahawks Blog, Portis was going 80 miles per hour in a 60 mph zone as he exited the Mount Baker Tunnel. The officer who pulled over the Seahawks backup QB reported that he could smell alcohol.
Portis submitted to two blood tests, which gave contradictory readings. The Washington State legal limit for alcohol is 0.08.
One test came back 0.078 — just a tad under the line. However, the other reading was 0.092.
So far, Portis and the Seahawks have made no comment about the incident. They may feel that the conflicting results give Portis a case that should be first heard in court.
The Seahawks QB inked a new two-year contract with Seattle in early April. He previously made the team in 2011 but had been demoted to the practice squad and then released in November.
It’s widely believed that Josh Portis struggled to achieve the $480,000 a year deal he just reached with the Seahawks. One sports blogger said: “In theory, Portis is a very good fit as a backup to Russell Wilson – very mobile with a strong throwing arm – and it will be interesting to see how much he’s developed over the past year or so.”

Observers can’t help but wonder if the DUI Josh Portis arrest could derail the Seahawks QB’s second chance.
