L.A. Noire , a joint project between Grand Theft Auto creators Rockstar and Team Bondi, was first announced in 2004 , light years away in gaming industry terms.

But now, it has a date – September 2010 – and today saw another mini landmark: the first online screens. You can catch three of those screens right here; GameInformer has another two here . These shots all depict cops preparing to raid a house.

For those not in the know, L.A. Noire is heading for PlayStation 3and Xbox 360, and is set in a perfectly re-created Los Angeles from around 60 years ago. You play as a cop tasked with solving a series of murders in the late-1940s, with the game’s look heavily influenced by the film noir genre that was so popular at the time.

The soundtrack is also ripped straight from detective films of the ’40s, with lots of classical jazz and moody brass instrumentals. Oh, and it also has “industry changing” animation techniques.

But here endeth the lesson. All you really need to know is: this one has an awesome pedigree, and it looks shit hot. Stay tuned.
