McDonald’s Testing Three New Quarter Pounders In Effort To Boost The Franchise

Global burger mega franchise McDonald’s is preparing to test new menu items, including three new Quarter Pounder sandwiches in order to boost the franchise after the company reported its first ever decline is sales. McDonalds also plans on introducing an all egg white Egg McMuffin breakfast sandwich.

The three new Quarter Pounder sandwiches under development are the Habanero Ranch Quarter Pounder, with white cheddar, hickory-smoked bacon and a new habanero-ranch sauce; a Deluxe Quarter Pounder, with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickle, mayonnaise and mustard; and a Bacon and Cheese Quarter Pounder, with American cheese, bacon, red onion, pickle, mustard and ketchup.

Nation’s Restaurant News is reporting that a major transition is taking place in the consumer goods market and McDonald’s just started to adapt to the changes over the last few years.

McDonalds reported its first monthly sales drop in nine years earlier in November. Rival chains are reportedly gaining steam on the global leader.

At the same time as the new sandwich ideas were being announced McDonald’s also announced that their US President of thirty five years, Jan Fields, would be stepping down. Fields oversaw the expansion of McDonald’s recent McCafe line of deluxe coffee drinks. Fields will be replaced by Jeff Stratton, McDonald’s global chief restaurant officer effective December 1, the company said.

McDonald’s company spokeswoman Heidi Barker Sa Shekhem said in a statement:

“We feel that now was the right time to make a change in leadership for the U.S. business.”

McDonald’s chief executive, Don Thompson, has recently admitted to investors that McDonald’s was prepared for many years of slower growth and was gearing the company towards less expensive menu options.

Amid a global financial slowdown that has seen record high youth unemployment, the demographic that tends to favor fast food, most restaurant chains are experiencing similar slow downs.

Will you be rushing out to try one of the new McDonald’s Quarter Pounders?

McDonald’s operates or franchises more than 34,000 restaurants worldwide, including more than 14,000 in the United States.
