Once Upon a Time Season 7 returns this fall with a new adventure. Many of the original cast members are not part of the new narrative, which will see an adult Henry Mills, played by Andrew J. West, beginning his reign as the new hero of the series.
The sixth installment of ABC’s fantasy drama series wrapped up with a flash to the future. Lucy (Alison Fernandez) arrived at Henry’s apartment and informed him that she was his daughter.
When Henry told Lucy that he did not have a daughter, she said, “Ya, you do. Now, come on, your family needs you.”
The introduction of a grown-up Henry and his young daughter raises several questions, including who is Lucy’s mother, what all happened in Henry’s life over the last decade, why Henry does not remember his daughter and more questions.
Once Upon a Time Season 7 is most likely to use flashbacks to answer them. Entertainment Weekly ‘s ( EW ) spoiler report says that the flashbacks in the new season of Once Upon a Time may not be used only to reveal what happened over the last decade. As some of the original characters are returning in Season 7, the series may flash back even further than the last decade.
“I’d put good money on the flashbacks filling in some of those blanks [what happened in the last decade), but considering several of the characters that will be returning — Hook and Rumple, among them — have been around for quite a long time, the series could potentially flash back even further than that.”
Moreover, Adam Horowitz, co-creator of Once Upon a Time , tells EW , “That’s one of the great advantages of having characters who can be hundreds of years old, we can span different eras and do many different things.”
After Once Upon a Time Season 6’s finale, co-creator Edward Kitsis told EW that the new season would reveal the identity of Lucy’s mother . He ruled out the possibility of Violet being her mother. Kitsis said that Henry and his wife’s love story was “ Once epic romance” in the tradition of Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Prince Charming (Josh Dallas).
Both Snow White and Prince Charming, along with Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) aka the Savior, are not part of Once Upon a Time Season 7. Jennifer Morrison, however, will star in one episode of the new season. With Emma Swan’s chapter ending, the seventh installment of the series could see the introduction of a new Savior, according to the co-creators.
The two-part final episode of Once Upon a Time Season 6 opened with a scene of Enchanted Forest during the time of a great upheaval. Henry was seen running through the woods in the dark, holding a flaming torch. He later told his daughter to escape with the book, saying “it may be realm’s only hope of defeating the darkness.” After Lucy exited the cabin, the giant dark beast arrived, breaking the cabin’s door, and covered Henry in its shadow as he held a sword to fight it.
The co-creator have confirmed that the darkness coming after Henry in the Enchanted Forest was the introduction of the new antagonist. Adam Horowitz told EW that it was the darkness that the adult Henry had to deal with, adding that it would have a major impact on the events of Once Upon a Time Season 7.
“It looked pretty scary, so I don’t think it’s a new friend-tagonist. What we see in the season finale in those little snippets is, it’s a darkness that grown-up Henry has to deal with and has a big impact on what’s going on in season 7. We’re still at that we need to be slightly infuriatingly vague stage.”
ABC has yet to announce the premiere date of Once Upon a Time Season 7, but there are speculations that the new season’s Episode 1 might air on Sunday, September 24.
