Hasnat Khan, the man with whom Princess Diana is said to have had a steamy two-year relationship, is getting lots of press attention this week.

As Diana’s first grandchild is born nearly a decade and a half after her 1997 death, a new interview titled “The Grandmother Prince George Never Knew” in Vanity Fair details little known aspects of the beloved royal’s post-divorce life .

According to socialite Jemima Khan, Diana was even considering moving to Pakistan during the relationship.

Khan says that Hasnat Khan prompted Diana to travel twice to Pakistan, possibly to discuss a potential marriage. Jemima Khan said:

“Diana was madly in love with Hasnat Khan and wanted to marry him… Even if that meant living in Pakistan, and that’s one of the reasons why we became friends.”

Her former husband Imran Khan was a “distant cousin of Diana’s lover,” and she adds :

“Both times she also went to meet his family secretly to discuss the possibility of marriage to Hasnat.”

Jemima Khan also blabs that Diana was intrigued by what it was like to live abroad, specifically asking about it:

“She wanted to know how hard it had been for me to adapt to life in Pakistan.”

According to Khan, Diana was stymied in her remarriage plans by Hasnat’s mother Naheed Khan — the socialite continues:

“(For a) son to marry an English girl is every conservative Pashtun mother’s worst nightmare… You send your son to be educated in England and he comes back with an English bride. It’s something they dread.”

Hasnat Khan’s alleged reluctance to wed the royal is said to have led her into the arms of Dodi Al Fayed — the man with whom Diana was traveling on the night she was killed in Paris several years ago.
