A woman found a snake in a bag of Walmart potatoes, turning what she thought was a discolored spud into an adventure to round up the three-and-a-half foot reptile.
Bonnie Raygor of North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, said she recently bought the bag of potatoes from Walmart but kept it closed until she was ready to cook some of them on Thursday. As she inspected the potatoes with the bag closed she noticed something orange and seemingly out of place, but she thought it was maybe just a potato that turned bad.
“First I saw its underbelly, which is white. I thought I had a bad potato. Instead I had a snake,” Raygor told WTAE, “The bag was sealed…. So I’m assuming it was in there when I bought it. I screamed.”
Instead of panicking, Raygor corralled the snake and got it into a reptile enclose she happened to already have for previous pets. She then got on the phone with Walmart to find out what to do next.
“First, they told me I should bring it to the lawn and garden department and they’d take care of it,” Raygor said. “And then I was dissatisfied, so I called and asked to speak to a manager, and he said if I had a receipt, I could get a refund.”
This isn’t the first time someone’s made an unusual find in a bag of food . A couple of weeks ago a Florida woman bought a bag of Fresh Express Spinach and Tomatoes from a Super Target store, but later found a dead frog inside. Unfortunately for Almo Rubio, she had already eaten much of the bag and figures she accidentally ate the frog’s leg, which was detached and nowhere to be found.
Rubio said she was just getting down to the bottom of the bag when she noticed something that felt out of place.
“It felt sticky, and slimy,” added Rubio, and upon closer inspection she said she “couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”
“I picked it up, and it ended up being a frog “, she said.
After the woman found a snake in her bag of potatoes from Walmart, local news station WTAE contacted store officials, who said a food safety team would be in touch with Raygor.
