Los Angeles, CA – Psy and Tommy Lasorda: Talk about your odd couple .

Korean pop star Psy (a.k.a. PSY) came out and performed an abbreviated portion of his new hit single “Gentleman” before the bottom of fourth inning of the Colorado Rockies-Los Angeles Dodgers game last night at Dodgers Stadium (see embedded video below). Afterward he tossed a free souvenir baseballs into the stands.

Tommy Lasorda was sitting at field level a few feet from where Psy started dancing, but Lasorda seemed less than impressed if not completely baffled by the whole exposition. Lasorda, the long-time Dodgers manager and baseball Hall of Famer, may be somewhat out of Psy’s demographic, however.

During his 20-years as skipper of the MLB team, Lasorda won 1,599 games, two World Series, and four National League pennants. He ended his managerial career in 1996 shortly after suffering a heart attack.

All’s well that ends well, at least for the home team, as the Dodgers prevailed over the Rockies by a score of 6-2. Winning pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu had this to say upon meeting his countryman Psy in the locker room after the game: “He’s a worldwide, global star. It was pretty interesting to see him. I realized today that he’s still a far bigger star than I am. So I’m just going to humble myself here.”

Psy’s “Gangnam Style” brought the 35-year-old overnight international fame last year, becoming YouTube’s most watched video with 1.5 billion views thus far. The new single , “Gentleman,” follows in its predecessor’s footsteps, complete with a catchy riff and new, bizarre choreography. The video has been watched more than 2.25 million times on YouTube and landed him at the top of the music charts in Korea last week, but has been knocked off the K-pop top 10 by Cho Yong-Pil with his song “Bounce” from his latest album Hello.

Do you believe that Tommy Lasorda had any clue as to who Psy was? Do you think “Gentleman” will achieve the same kind of success as “Gangnam Style”?
