‘Dumb And Dumber 2’ Picked Up By Universal Pictures

Dumb and Dumber 2 isn’t a done deal, but the Jeff Daniels-Jim Carrey helmed flick has found a new home at Universal Pictures.

The 1994 hit was suppose to begin production years ago but has been met with nothing but development problems. Ultimately, Warner Bros. ditched the project.

The original movie was a surprise hit when it debuted, raising $127 million in domestic box office. The movie also helped solidify Jim Carrey as one of America’s biggest mega-stars.

In the original film, best friends and morons Lloyd and Harry (Daniels and Carrey) make a cross-country trip to Aspen, Colorado so they can return a suitcase. Along the way, the men engage in moronic and hilarious incidents.

While both Carrey and Daniels would go on to become mega-stars in their own right, the two men never abandoned the project, instead championing a return for the film over the last 19 years.

As a fan of the original movie, I would love to view a sequel that isn’t Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd, the disappointing prequel that starred Timothy Stack, Derek Richardson, and Eric Christian Olsen.

As The Inquisitr’s Dan Evon pointed out yesterday, Peter and Bobby Farrelly are attached to direct the film .

According to actor Jeff Daniels, the film is “painfully funny.” Daniel says of the sequel to the 1994 hit:

“It’s taken two years to get the studios and all that stuff worked out. The easiest thing to say in Hollywood is ‘no.’ You keep your job if you say ‘no.’ If you say ‘yes’ and you’re not right, you lose your job. There’s a lot of ‘no.’ And we had a lot of ‘no’ for two years and finally ‘yes,’ it’s comin’ around, and I think it’s got a chance to be I hope better than the first one.”
