The San Antonio Spurs got the win over the Sacramento Kings on Friday night but they lost guard Tony Parker to an injury.
Parker sprained his ankle late in the third quarter and had to leave the game. There’s no timetable for Parker’s return but various sources are reporting that it could be a “few weeks” until the Spurs star makes his return to the court.
Spurs Nation reports that Gregg Popovich said that Parker would be out for “a while” with his sprained ankle.
Popovich said:
“He’ll be out a while. It’s a good one. Tony’s been pretty stalwart for us. He’s having an All-Star season, and as I said, I think playing better than any other point guard in the league consistently throughout the year. We’ll definitely miss him.”
Parker has averaged 21 points and 7.6 assists per game this year and is considered a top contender for the MVP award. The veteran guard has led the Spurs to a 46-14 record, the best in the NBA.
Tim Duncan added :
“It’s obviously a huge loss … He’s been our leader all year long … But we’ve played with all kinds of different people this year. We’re going to rally. We’re not going to replace him, obviously, but we’re going to change how we play for a little while.”
There’s no timetable set for Parker’s return but it will likely be a week or two until he hits the court again.
