‘The Wolverine’ End Credits Scene: What’s Going On? [Spoilers]

The Wolverine end credits scene was strange and unexpected, but what does it mean? Spoilers lie ahead if you haven’t seen the film yet.

Hugh Jackman has appeared in every X-Men film to date, even if it was just an off-color cameo in X-Men: First Class. The Wolverine, ever iconic, barely beats out the older Professor X himself (Patrick Stewart) in this way, with only Magneto (Sir Ian McKellan) taking a close third.

End credits scenes have also been a regular staple of Marvel Comics films, save perhaps Spider-Man, starting all the way back with Daredevil.

The spoiler is almost here, so if you don’t want it ruined, back out now. You were warned.

The Wolverine end credits scene involves Wolverine trying to get through the airport two years after the events of the film. He is on the verge of going through security, and tries to waive his need to go through the metal detectors due to his Adamantium skeleton. He knows he’ll set it off even completely unarmed, save the claws he was born with.

Suddenly the metallic objects going through the X-ray machine begin to float and Wolverine finds himself face to face with Magneto. Everything is frozen around him as the X-Men villain asks for his help. He then notices Professor X nearby, restating what he had in the first film, “It’s as I told you when we first met, Logan. You’re not the only one with special gifts .”

Apparently the Wolverine end credits scene is setting us up for the upcoming X-Men: Days Of Future Past , and the return of Professor X after Jean Gray, acting as the Phoenix, had supposedly killed him. Somehow he was able to reform after that, and Magneto gained his powers back after being supposedly “cured” of his mutation.

It looks like X-Men: Days Of Future Past might explain how the return of Professor X and Magneto came to be.

What do you think is going on with the Wolverine end credits scene?
