The Oscars: How They Made ‘Ted’ Appear

“Ted” appeared at the Oscars last night, and this is how.

Tippett Studio has revealed how “Ted”, the animated stuffed bear from the Mark Wahlberg movie, appeared alongside Mark Wahlberg at last night’s Oscars . The animated character voiced by Seth MacFarlane seemed to be real enough when Mark Wahlberg presented Oscars for Sound Mixing and Sound Editing.

According to IGN , the segment was made possible with combined efforts from Tippett Studio’s Blair Clark, Seth MacFarlane, the telecast’s director Don Mischer and his broadcast team. This isn’t the first time an animated character has appeared on a live-action show, but Tippett Studio commented on the making of “ Ted ” in the segment:

“For the filming of the segment, a duplicate of the Academy Awards stage was constructed at CBS Studios, with lighting and cameras situated to match the Dolby Theatre set up. The feat involved planning exact camera positions so that the animation … would integrate seamlessly on Oscar Night with Wahlberg and the show audience. With five nominees in each category, Tippett artists created 10 different outcomes in just a four-week production schedule. As the winners were unknown before the envelope was opened, Mischer and his team sat at the ready to push the button for the correct winner during the live broadcast.”

So basically in the end, it was a “choose your own winner” event for Don Mischer and his team.

Ted 2 is in the works, but it’s still a ways off. In the meantime, Mila Kunis had some things to say about the upcoming film:

“I’m pretty sure there’s gonna be a Ted 2 . I think MacFarlane’s a little preoccupied at this very moment, with a couple things on his plate, just a few.”
