Amanda Bynes is ready to get back into the game after not appearing in a film since 2010.
Bynes has been away from the spotlight for many years now, but she just gave an interview this week and revealed that she’s preparing for her big comeback. The actress, now 31 years old, told Hollyscoop she has hopes of getting back into show business.
“I do miss acting, and I have something surprising to tell you: I’m going to start acting again,” Bynes revealed in a segment that aired on Good Morning America Friday. “I want to do TV. Maybe a few guest spots on some shows that I’m a fan of and maybe another TV show where I’m the star of it.”
Bynes rose to fame as a child star on Nickelodeon’s All That and The Amanda Show , which took up most of her teenage years. Amanda went on to star in films like What a Girl Wants and She’s the Man , and she had memorable supporting turns in Hairspray and 2010’s Easy A; the latter of which was her last acting role.
In subsequent years, Bynes made headlines for multiple driving violations and being placed under psychiatric hold, in addition to some pretty controversial tweets. Now, she is cleaning herself up and attending the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.
“I’ve been going to school lately, fashion school,” Bynes said. “I love it. I learned how to sew, I make patterns and I want to start a clothing line in the future.”
The actress also spoke about her former All That co-star, Nick Cannon, reaching out to her when she was struggling.
“I know that he called me family, and I love that,” she admitted. “He’s definitely a family member to me, too.”
On a more light-hearted note, Bynes revealed that her overall appearance through those tumultuous years after quitting acting was inspired by Blac Chyna. When Hollyscoop host Diana Madison asked if Blac Chyna really stole the star’s look, Bynes fully admitted, “I stole her look!”
Bynes and her lawyer revealed that she is sober now and takes full responsibility for the dark road she went down, rather than blaming the Hollywood system. The actress previously explained that she retired from acting because she simply wasn’t taking any pleasure from it anymore.
“If I don’t love something anymore I stop doing it,” she wrote in 2010 on Twitter. “I don’t love acting anymore so I’ve stopped doing it.”
Bynes had been cast in the 2011 comedy Hall Pass, but an insider revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that she was not prepared for the role. She didn’t know her lines and had a lot of “out of nowhere” behavior. A different source claimed that there was some misunderstanding over the size of her role in the film. The actress was fired from the role and was ultimately replaced by Alexandra Daddario.
Bynes was often cast as a sweet girl through her TV and film career. With her public meltdowns in recent years, though, publicist Nancy Kane suggested to The Hollywood Reporter that the industry may not cast the star in such roles again.
“Once you have a photo of a pipe in your mouth in a car, you can’t un-ring that bell,” Kane told the publication. “It would be hard to see Amanda Bynes as a rosy-faced ingenue ever again. She’s crossed a line.”
While attending the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, Bynes has been keeping a low profile on Twitter , especially compared to previous years. It remains to be seen if Hollywood will take another chance on Bynes now that she is ready to get back in the spotlight.
