Mad Men star Jon Hamm is the latest addition to Minions , the spinoff of the 2010 animated film Despicable Me .

Hamm will be “starring” opposite Sandra Bullock, who will voice Scarlet Overkill , an “Audrey Hepburn-inspired character bent on becoming the first female supervillain and taking over the world.” Hamm will play her husband, Herb Overkill . The animated comedy is set to be released December 19, 2014.

Minions focuses on the … well, minions, audiences were introduced to in Despicable Me . The little yellow henchman have been around since the dawn of time serving the most ambitious villains in history. Set in the 1960s, way before they met Gru, three of the minions arrive at a villain convention and compete for the right to serve Scarlet in her quest to take over the world.

In the original film, Gru (Steve Carrell) adopts three girls named Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier), and Agnes (Elsie Fisher) from an orphanage in an attempt to steal a shrink ray from his rival, Vector (Jason Segel), so he can shrink and steal the moon. The film received largely positive reviews and grossed over $543 million worldwide.

A sequel, Despicable Me 2 , is set to be released on July 3, 2013. The aforementioned actors will all be reprising their roles in the sequel. Kristen Wiig, who voiced Miss Hattie in the first film, will also be returning. However, she will instead be voicing Lucy Wilde, an agent of the Anti-Villain League who recruits Gru to help her take down a new villain. Joining the cast are Al Pacino and Steve Coogan.

Since Mad Men premiere in 2007, Jon Hamm has been nominated for a number of awards for his role as Don Draper, an advertising executive and founding partner of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce. To date, Hamm has won seven awards for his role either as an individual actor or part of an ensemble.
