Drew Barrymore is raising daughter Olive in the Jewish faith and may convert to Judaism herself. She is also reportedly lasering off her tattoos for religious reasons.
Barrymore, the granddaughter of acting legend John Barrymore, married Will Kopleman, who is Jewish, last June, and gave birth to Olive on September 26.
In a recent television appearance , Drew said among other things that she hasn’t converted yet, but she was married in a traditional Jewish ceremony, celebrates Passover, and that her daughter will be raised traditionally. About Judaism itself, she also said:
“It’s a beautiful faith and I’m so honored to be around it. It’s so family-oriented … the stories are so beautiful and it’s incredibly enlightening. I’m really happy.”
According to the various news accounts, the actress is also in the process of getting rid of her tattoos so she can be buried in a traditional Jewish cemetery. Leviticus 19:28 prohibits any kind of body art.
The Digital Spy website reports that “Barrymore is said to have six tattoos, which include a butterfly on her stomach, a pair of angels on her lower back, and a cross on her leg.” The Gossip Cop website claims that according to an insider, “Drew also wants to be a Santa Barbara mom, and tattoos clash with that wardrobe.”
Drew Barrymore also reportedly has vowed to discuss her struggles with substance abuse and other aspects of her wild past with her daughter when she gets older according to Metro . “I will absolutely instill in her that you cannot be ashamed of the journey that it took, you know, to get where you are if you are proud of yourself.”
