Beer: now available in a squirrel carcass

You must know the feeling: you crack open a frosty beer after much anticipation only to be utterly disappointed when you realize you’re supping it from a regular old bottle or pint glass and not what was once a happy squirrel.

No? Well, if the answer was yes, your prayers have been answered. Scottish beermakers BrewDog have finally paired up the natural combination of cold beer and dead, taxidermied animal to create their new product, a beer called “The End of History.” The product is 110 proof ( beating their previous efforts “Tokyo” and “Tactical Nuclear Penguin” for booziness) and costs £500 a bottle.

BrewDog introduces the new beer on their blog:

In true BrewDog fashion we’ve torn up convention, blurred distinctions and pushed brewing and beer packaging to its absolute limits. This beer is an audacious blend of eccentricity, artistry and rebellion; changing the general perception of beer one stuffed animal at a time.

The impact of The End of History is a perfect conceptual marriage between art, taxidermy and craft brewing. The bottles are at once beautiful and disturbing – they disrupt conventions and break taboos, just like the beer they hold within them.

Only 11 of the dead squirrel-or-stoat beers were produced, and both animal rights and alcohol abuse awareness groups are already not amused. According to BrewDog, however, the squirrels used for the limited run were “roadkill.”
