Chris Brown’s tattoo artist Peter Koskela is defending the singer’s new ink that some think resembles Rihanna’s beaten face, Entertainmentwise reports.

Koskela told E! News , “It was really a blow to me to think that people would think so little of a person that I would actually put a picture of a beaten woman on his neck.” He also said he would never promote any kind of domestic violence, and that he doesn’t do any kind of tattoos that are gang-related or racist either.

“I don’t do anything hurtful. That is just the motto I live by,” he said.

Koskela also said that people should wait until the tattoo heals properly before they judge it. He said it takes two weeks to heal since the neck is constantly moving, but after that it would look the original image that Brown brought to him.

“The dude is serious about his art. When something inspires him, he wants it somewhere on his body, but he never said why he wanted to get that particular piece,” Koskela said.

The tattoo artist has also inked stars like Sean Kingston, Brandy, and Brown’s girlfriend Karrueche Tran. He said he met the 23-year-old singer through Tran, a 24-year-old Vietnamese model. The two have been dating for a year and Koskela says Rihanna “never comes up at all.”

Brown and his reps have already denied that the tattoo is either Rihanna or another battered woman . His spokesperson says it is a Day of the Dead “sugar skull” and that it was a copy of a M.A.C. Cosmetic design Brown saw in a magazine piece about the festival.
