When NRA Chief Wayne LaPierre said last week that he wanted to put an armed officer in every American school several people went ahead and called him crazy . Well, LaPierre is standing by his “crazy” idea.
On Meet The Press this morning, LaPierre told David Gregory :
“If it’s crazy to call for putting police in and securing our schools to protect our children, then call me crazy … I think the American people think it’s crazy not to do it. It’s the one thing that would keep people safe and the NRA is going try to do that.”
LaPierre read a statement last week on behalf of the NRA about the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. During his remarks, LaPierre blamed the media, movies and violent video games for the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, but failed to place any of the blame on guns.
LaPierre stood by his stance on Meet The Press this morning saying that stricter gun control rules wouldn’t stop future shootings.
“I don’t believe that ( banning assault weapons or high capacity clips is going to) make one difference. There are so many different ways to evade that.”
The head of the NRA said that fixing the ineffective mental health care system in the United States, as well as pushing the government to effectively enforce laws that are already on the books, would go a long way to prevent another disaster.
