Catherine Zeta-Jones has voluntarily checked into a healthcare facility for a second time to treat her bipolar disorder condition.

Her publicist has called the decision a “pro-active” one.

TMZ reports that a source close to the welsh star said she has not had a relapse treatment, adding that Zeta-Jones had sought help for “maintenance.”

“Catherine has pro-actively checked into a healthcare facility,” publicist Cece Yorke said on Monday.

“Previously Catherine has said that she is committed to periodic care in order to manage her health in an optimum manner,” Reuters reports .

The 43-year-old mother of two entered the healthcare center on Monday and is expected to complete a 30-day program.

This is the second-known trip to a residential facility for Zeta-Jones.

The Academy Award winner previously spent time in a treatment center in 2011 when news of her illness was first revealed .

The actress suffers from bipolar II disorder, a milder form of the condition.

Typically, it shows in abrupt mood swings, erratic behavior, and often more depressive episodes than sufferers of manic “up” moods.

Medical experts believe the illness is treatable with medication, therapy, or a combination of both.

Back in 2011 when she first underwent treatment, the official statement from the actress’ team said she was stressed from coping with the advanced throat cancer diagnosis and treatment of her husband, actor Michael Douglas.

On that occasion, Zeta-Jones was admitted to a detox center at a New Canaan, Connecticut hospital for five days.

This time, however, no reason other than “maintenance” has been given for her decision to seek help.

Zeta-Jones last starred in Steven Soderbergh’s critically acclaimed Side Effects along with Jude Law, Rooney Mara, and Channing Tatum and recently stepped out with a recovered Douglas at the 40th Anniversary Chaplin Award Gala at the Lincoln Center on April 22.
