Some cheered, and some fans of the Star Wars series booed. Either way you slice it, George Lucas’ announcement that he was leaving the S tar Wars franchise was met with a mixed reaction. Recently Lucas sat down to discuss his decision on selling his company Lucasfilm to Disney, which will ultimately start a new regime of Star Wars films.

The discussion, which was a five-part interview between Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy, was put up on Star Wars’ official video page earler in the day. The conversation was fittingly called “Transitioning Into The Future.” The first video which covered Lucas’ retirement from the Star Wars franchise was put up in October, and the final installment, which got more in depth about his decision, was put up earlier today.

In the interview George Lucas said:

“I’m doing this so that the films will have a longer life, so that more fans and people can enjoy them in the future. It’s a very big universe I’ve created and there’s a lot of stories in there. I get to be a fan now and I sort of look forward to it. It’s a lot more fun.”

In part two of the video George Lucas discussed the creative process and how the new director will be chosen to take over the series. President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy said:

“There are many people who sprang to mind — writers and directors — that I’ve worked with in the past that I’m really excited to bring into the fold on this. I think we have a unique opportunity to go after some incredibly talented people.”

So far it is rumored that Matthew Vaughn will direct the series. Vaughn is currently known for directing Kick-Ass . What do you think of this choice? Do you think Vaughn is worthy of the honor?
