‘Minecraft Xbox 360’ Saves May Carry Over To Xbox One Version After All

During E3 last week, Microsoft Game Studios boss Phil Spencer came out and said that the Xbox One version of Minecraft , revealed during Microsoft’s E3 2013 press conference, would not allow for the transferring of saves from the Xbox 360 version to the new version.

Fortunately for fans who have put in a significant amount of work into their virtual worlds, that may not be the case after all.

Originally, Spencer told OXM UK that Minecraft on the Xbox One would be a “new product,” which meant that transferring saves between the two was out of the question. “We’re actually updating it in pretty significant ways for the new platform. Bigger worlds, which don’t translate between the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One,” Spencer added.

In response to an article published over on Eurogamer – and in response to quite a few unhappy Minecraft fans – Spencer tweeted that Microsoft and developer 4J Studios are actually still “discussing” the matter, so the possibility does at least still exist.

Since the game’s reveal last week, Microsoft and developer 4J Studios haven’t had a whole lot to add about what sort of new features gamers can expect out of Minecraft for the Xbox One. As Spencer said in his original statement, it is known that the worlds – which are fairly limited on the Xbox 360 version when compared to the original PC version – will be bigger this time around.

Enhanced multiplayer support is also said to be something on the table.

Considering the massive popularity of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition , it’s not at all surprising that Microsoft and 4J Studios are looking towards a new version for the Xbox One; in under a year, the Xbox 360 version had already managed to sell over 5 million .
