Ann Romney’s husband and GOP candidate for president Mitt Romney may not be solid on his position when it comes to abortion, but the Mrs. is not afraid to directly state her views when asked, in particular this morning on ABC’s The View .
As we reported earlier, Mrs. Romney was on The View this morning, breaking out of her binder for a spell and sitting down to chat with the ladies about the race, her experiences on the trail, and how Mitt is not allowed to run again if he loses this time. (Can you blame Ann for putting her foot down on this one? Dude has been campaigning since we dialed up to the internet.)
On Mrs. Romney’s View appearance, the sticky subject of abortion and reproductive rights came up — not surprisingly, since Mitt has appeared to change position several times even just in this election on the topic. While Romney has expressed support for allowing employers to have dominion over a woman’s access to birth control over the past year, saying in February he unequivocally supported the Blunt Amendment and its provisions.
But Romney walked back on the issues at the debate, indicating his position had seemingly changed again and now he opposes the Blunt Amendment? No one is really sure. But Ann Romney’s View appearance confirms that even if Mitt is ambiguous on reproductive choice, she is not.
Mrs. Romney said:
“The good news is I’m not running for office and I don’t have to say what I feel. But I am pro-life. I’m happy to say that … I think we all have to understand that this is an issue that is so tender, and there are people on both sides of the issue that have, with very good conscience, with different opinions.”
While the position Ann Romney stated on The View isn’t necessarily the same as her husband’s, it is interesting she came out so clearly when her spouse has not. Do issues relating to abortion and birth control affect your vote in November?
