Breaking — While attending Django Unchained’s New York press conference , there was a buzz around on whether or not the Weinsteins would cancel the premiere of Django Unchained due to the sensitivity around the Sandy Hook shootings. Well, it looks like we got our answer.

As reported by Deadline , The Weinstein Company, which is the production company behind the Django Unchained has announced that they won’t be celebrating the film’s holiday open with an LA premiere. The premiere, which was scheduled for tomorrow has been officially cancelled. However, the Tarantino directed ride will still be shown, but there won’t be a red carpet in celebration.

In addition, the press that was initially invited to the premiere has been asked to attend another screening. The premiere is now only slated exclusively for the cast of Django Unchained , as well as their families and friends who have yet to see the film. As reported on Sunday, the film is a dark-comedy about the slave era complete with Tarantino-styled violence, which can be a sensitive subject matter given the recent events in the last week.

TWC has made a statement in regards to the shootings via a spokesperson:

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the tragedy in Newtown, CT, and in this time of national mourning we have decided to forgo our scheduled event. However, we will be holding a private screening for the cast and crew and their friends and families.”

Django Unchained isn’t the only film to pay their respects to the victims of the Newton, CT shootings, the Film Society of Lincoln Center decided to postpone an event for Jack Reacher as well.
