Police were called to Clint Eastwood’s Los Angeles home following a report of multiple men armed with assault weapons inside the actor’s residence. The report also stated that Eastwood had been shot.
However, upon arrival, authorities found nothing out of the ordinary. They ascertained that the tip was another “swatting” prank, according to TMZ .
Officers were unable to determine if the actor was home during the hoax.
The Toronto Sun reported that Tom Cruise, Chris Brown, Ashton Kutcher, and Justin Bieber have all been victims of “swatting” pranks, a practice that involves calling in a fake crime in order to incite an immediate, and often rather large, police response.
The LAPD is not happy — pranks like these cost the force money and waste valuable resources. They’re on the lookout for pranksters, and they’ve said that “the suspects WILL be caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
A 12-year-old boy was charged earlier this month for making an emergency prank call to police that ended with authorities raiding Ashton Kutcher’s Los Angeles home in October.
The Playboy mansion was also the object of a “swatting” prank on Thursday as can be seen in the following video from KTLA :
Clint Eastwood has not yet given a statement about the prank.
