Tony Romo Golf Pro: Quarterback Plays Solid Game, But Not Enough To Win Pro-Am Tournament

Tony Romo has a golf game much like the way he plays quarterback — pretty good, but just not enough to come through in the clutch.

Romo and his partner held a lead on the final day of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am on Sunday, but were overcome in the final round and ended finishing third.

It’s not as if Tony Romo had a golf meltdown, the NBC Sports blog Pro Football Talk noted. He and partner Jordan Spieth spot a respectable 68 over the final round, but they couldn’t overcome the strong finish from co-champions Brandt Snedeker-Toby Wilt and Michael Letzig-John Erickson.

Tony Romo’s golf outing spurred comparisons to his football style, in which his talent and arm strength has been unable to get several talented Cowboys teams over the hump. But Pro Football Talk notes that Romo actually had quite a solid tournament, including a 15-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole.

Still, Romo thinks he’ll be sticking to football and laughed at talk that he could moonlight on the PGA Tour.

“I think they’re wrong,” Tony Romo told the Dallas Morning News. “I’m pretty good at what I do. I like to compete, and it gets our family out on a couple of vacations once in a while and it makes it an enjoyable experience.”

While Tony Romo lost at golf, his winning personality shined at the tournament, the News noted. He was one of the most popular athletes at the event, and stopped at nearly every hole to sign autographs and take pictures with fans.
