A plethora of characters for Futurama are set to appear in The Simpsons for a crossover episode.
This revelation comes just days after Fox confirmed that The Simpsons and Family Guy would also be crossing over into each other’s universes for an episode that will either be the finale to season 25 or the as the premiere episode of season 26.
Al Jean, The Simpsons’ executive producer who has worked on the show for over two decades, made this revelation during the panel at the San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday July 20, and he has since revealed a few more tidbits of information to Entertainment Weekly about the animated collaboration.
Jean told Entertainment Weekly , “Futurama is such an easy fit. It’s really funny, and their show lends itself to any variety of plot lines. By having them on, we have a little freedom. The biggest thrill for me is that we don’t have to adjust the animation style.”
The producer also discussed the plot for the episode, proclaiming, “Bender has to come back from the future to kill Bart because there’s something that Bart does now that makes the future really, really, really bad.”
Futurama’s Billy West , Katey Sagal, John DiMaggio, Phil LaMarr, and Maurice LaMarche, will each lend their vocal talents to the episode, which Jean confirmed will be recorded next month.
Recently, Futurama was axed by Comedy Central, so this instalment could be the last ever outing for Fry, Leela, Bender, and Zoidberg, as it is still yet to find a new home. The show’s final episode for the comedy channel will air on September 4.
Family Guy and The Simpson’s crossover episode will air in fall 2014, and it will see the Griffins travel to Springfield where Peter, Lois, Meg, Chris, and Stewie will become firm friends with Homer, Marge, Bart, Maggie, and Lisa.
