A mesmerising video has emerged online showcasing a clip from every film to ever be named best picture winner at the Oscars. You can watch it at the foot of the page.
The four-minute and nine second long clip starts with a shot from 1927’s Wings , which was the first film to ever be awarded the Academy Award for best picture. It then shows the winners chronologically, all the way up to last year’s winner, The Artist .
The footage then concludes with the word, “Next?,” before it then shows clips from the nine films which have nominated for this year’s best picture award. These include Ben Affleck’s Argo , Michael Haneke’s Amour , Benh Zeitlin Beasts of the Southern Wild, Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables, Ang Lee’s Life Of Pi , Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln , David O. Russel’s Silver Linings Playbook , and Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty.
The impressive montage is set to a piece of music by the British composer Max Richter, entitled “November.” Whilst the clip was created by the Chicago-based filmmaker Nelson Carvajal, who has stated that it is “a retrospective in anticipation of the 85th Academy Awards.”
This year’s Oscars , which will be the 85th Academy Awards, are taking place this Sunday at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. They will hosted by Family Guy and Ted creator Seth MacFarlane, and Ben Affleck’s Argo is favorite to win the best picture accolade, whilst Daniel Day-Lewis is expected to pick up the best actor award.
