Plot details have emerged for Wes Anderson’s new film, The Grand Budapest Hotel, which the director recently finished filming in Germany.

Anderson’s follow-up to Moonrise Kingdom will star Tilda Swinton, Jude Law, Ralph Fiennes, Jeff Goldblum, Willem Dafoe, Adrien Brody, Harvey Kietel, and Saoirse Ronan, as well as featuring roles for Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, and Jason Schwartzman.

Entertainment Weekly has summarised the plot in the following fashion, noting, “The Grand Budapest Hotel tells of a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars and his friendship with a young employee who becomes his trusted protege.”

They then continue, “The story involves the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting, the battle for an enormous family fortune and the slow and then sudden upheavals that transformed Europe during the first half of the 20th century.”

Fox Searchlight are aiming to release the film in late 2013, or early 2014. This will be Anderson’s eighth film, and comes after Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, The Darjeeling Limited, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and the aforementioned, Moonrise Kingdom.

Earlier this year Anderson received an Oscar nomination for his screenwriting work, alongside his co-writer Roman Coppola, on Moonrise Kingdom, an accolade he ultimately lost out on to Django Unchained’s Quentin Tarantino.

This latest batch of information regarding The Grand Budapest Hotel comes after his new film was earlier described as being a tale about, “The troubles and tribulations of Mr. Gustave, who serves as the hotel’s perfectly composed concierge.”

Ralph Fiennes is set to play Mr. Gustave, and the film was mostly shot in German at the Gorlitzer Warenhaus. Johnny Depp had been linked with a role in the film, but he ultimately had to withdraw due to a scheduling conflict.
