Did Miley Cyrus make history at the VMAs with her raunchy “Blurred Lines” and “We Can’t Stop” duet with Robin Thicke?
The Miley Cyrus brouhaha seemed to last well into the last official week of summer, with the performance in which the former Disney princess engaged in a lot of bizarre and highly sexualized dancing alongside Thicke a leading story in what was overall a slow news week.
Mostly, Cyrus’ appearance was poorly received, but early on, Miley was not so much concerned with making a good impression as just making an impression overall.
In fact, the pop starlet believed the VMA performance could even “make history,” at least in entertainment. She explained in an interview that she and Thicke both felt the raucous act would create a huge splash, which it did:
“Me and Robin, the whole time said, ‘You know we’re about to make history right now.’ ”
Miss Miley doesn’t have time for haters, however, and she also says that anyone too focused on the shocking scene needs to get a grip, adding in the just released comments:
“What’s amazing is, I think, now, we’re three days later and people are still talking about it. They’re overthinking it. You’re thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it. Like, I didn’t even think about it, ’cause that’s just me.”
Cyrus concludes :
“I don’t pay attention to the negative because I’ve seen this play out so many times. How many times have we seen this play out in pop music? Madonna’s done it. Britney’s done it. Every VMA performance… that’s what you’re looking for, you’re wanting to make history.”
So, did Miley Cyrus make history at the VMAs, or just make a mess of her career?
