Whatever is happening with Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones’ marriage, they have vowed to put all their differences aside and focus on their children.
The rumor mill has been full of not so good news for the A-list couple after it was announced that they are splitting after 17 years of marriage.
But it is unclear if they are actually divorcing or not.
Micheal Douglas, who was awarded a Legend accolade by GQ Magazine on Tuesday, has said that there are no problems at home.
“I think the press has a crisis. We are fine. My wife and I are fine.” he told reporters. “We take a temporary separation – but the press, it gives you stuff to write about.”
Michael and Catherine were married in 2000. They have two children Dylan, 13 and Carys, 10.
The pair haven’t been photographed together since April and last week, Michael’s rep confirmed that the couple have separated and are taking some time apart to evaluate their relationship.
Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas are currently doing their own thing, in separate places. Catherine is reportedly at home with the kids enjoying the last part of the summer, while her husband is in Europe promoting his latest project, Liberace.
“She’s determined that it be life as usual [for the kids],” a source told People magazine.
Michael has been pestered with questions about his marital status and according to Mirror, is desperate to save his marriage. He wants to give Catherine all the space she needs, say some sources close to the situation.
But publicly, he seems unfazed. He talked about how fans have been so “kind” asking him if he’s alright and he assures them that there are no problems at home.
As far as the children, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones are in agreement. They want to shield them from the press and let them have as normal a childhood as possible. Whatever else is going on, that is a refreshing statement coming from two big Hollywood names.
