Denver Broncos player Von Miller has been suspended for the first four games of the 2013 season for violating the NFL drug policy.
Miller is appealing the league’s decision.
Details about the drug violation are not known yet but the Denver Post notes that the NFL’s drug policy states that anyone testing positive for a performance enhancing drug will be immediately suspended. The Broncos have not commented on the suspension yet.
ESPN’s NFL Insider Adam Schefter reports that no dates have been scheduled yet for Miller’s appeal.
Schefter writes on Twitter: “No dates for Von Miller’s appeal of his four-game suspension have been set yet. Still being worked out.”
Miller was the NFL’s defensive rookie of the year for the 2011-2012 season and finished second last year in defensive MVP voting. Miller had 18.5 sacks in 2012 and will be a big part of the Broncos defense in 2013.
The Broncos will start camp later this week. Von Miller will be able to practice with the team and is expected to play during pre-season games. If he loses his appeal, he will miss the first four games of the season against the Baltimore Ravens, New York Giants, Oakland Raiders and Philadelphia Eagles. Shaun Phillips would likely take Miller’s spot during those four games.
