American League Cy Young Award winner David Price has agreed to a one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Rays. The short-term contract will allow both sides to avoid salary arbitration.

According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, the deal is worth just north of $10 million, a big bump from Price’s $4.35 million contract during the 2012 MLB season.

Following his new deal, David Price will become eligible for free agency after the 2015 season.

The 27-year-old Price holds a 3.16 lifetime ERA with a 61-31 winning record. The all-star pitcher has made three straight All-Star teams and lead the league last season with a 2.56 ERA and a 20-5 record. David Price also racked up a 1.10 WHIP and 205 strikeouts in 211 innings in 2012.

Price was in a hotly contested Cy Young Award race with Detroit’s Justin Verlander , a race he narrowly won.

Do you think David Price and the Tampa Bay Rays will eventually reach a long-term agreement?
