Cairo, Egypt – In the wake of an attack by Islamists on the United States Embassy on Cairo this week, the United States State Department has put a statement on their Cairo website which calls for religious tolerance. Yet, it is not the Egyptians who stormed the Embassy, ripped down the flag, and tore it to pieces, while raising the black flag of the Islamist sect high that upset the State Department. It was the idiotic attempt by an Egyptian living in the United States to blaspheme Islam. The statement deplored the individuals decision to hurt the feelings of the Muslim attackers.

The statement goes on to use the anniversary of September 11th to remember that religious tolerance is the benchmark of Democracy and that no one should be allowed to use their free speech rights to offend anyone.

The Full State Department Release says:

“The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others.”
