Javier Gutierrez and James O’Barr are at Comic-Con to talk about their reboot of The Crow starring Luke Evans in the lead role.

When the announcement came that there would be a remake of the Brandon Lee film, many fans cried foul saying there was no need to touch the iconic film.

As a testament to the new film’s quality, James O’Barr, creator of The Crow , has come on board as a consultant and will work closely in the development of the new movie.

Shock Til You Drop talked to both men at San Diego. First of, an amazing new teaser poster (see below), the first official image of the film was released and it looks spectacular.

O’Barr admitted that he was “110% against doing The Crow again” before talking to Gutierrez. He explains he told the director, “Remaking the movie was a terrible idea and you’ll never work in America again. Brandon was a friend and I’d never do anything that hinted at betrayal.”

But he was won over when Gutierrez explained that he was going back to the source material, “We can do something original. The darkness, the beauty, the violence and love. That’s what got me excited.”

Comic-Con has given them the opportunity to explain to fans where they’re coming from and what the movie will be about.

As far as having Welsh actor Luke Evans play the part of Eric Draven, O’Barr says that this is his first leading role and he likes the variety of roles Luke has played during his relatively short film career. “He can become anything he wants to become.”

Gutierrez says, “He’s going to be sensitive when the love story comes in and it’s going to be dark when the violence comes in. He has to have that range, we need an actor. Not somebody with a pretty face. I was very lucky to get Luke. We have a good actor that can put his soul into it.”

The Crow is being produced by Relativity Media and starts production at the beginning of 2014. Stay tuned for more news about Comic-Con.
