Just last week, Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom starring Idris Elba had dropped a teaser trailer . Now we have a full length theatrical trailer that covers Nelson Mandela’s journey to freedom.

The striking text that opens the trailer to describe Nelson Mandela sure looks like an exciting ride. Instead of the older version of Mandela that we’re accustomed to, the trailer explains his earlier years describing the man as “public enemy number 1, hunted by the police, feared by the government, revolutionary, outlaw, rebel, fighter, radical, and liberator.”

With the captions aided by the sound of African influenced drum beats, the first few seconds of Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom tells us all we need to know about what direction The Weinstein Company plans to go with and that’s straight to awards season.

When the teaser hit the internet, Idris Elba’s portrayal of Nelson Mandela looked promising, and now we can comfortably say without a doubt that Elba steps it up in performance as well as his authentic accent.

From a look at the trailer it’s obvious that the film isn’t straying from the standard biopic formula, and that may be in its favor. Opposite Idris Elba is Naomie Harris, who looks like she holds her own in the film as well.

The biopic is said to focus mostly on Mandela’s youth as a rebel, documenting his courageous journey to freedom, and the event that lead to him becoming a symbol of South Africa, and its president.

As for Nelson Mandela’s health, the ailing man spent his birthday in the hospital, which he has remained since June 8. It’s said that he’s currently in critical but stable condition.

Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom hits theaters on November 29, which is prime for Oscar season. Do you think this is Oscar-worthy? Let us know.
