The job of “ Water slide tester” — a role that must be up there with Tropical Island Caretaker and Nipple-Tweaker For J-Lo — has been landed by UK student Seb Smith.

The 22-year-old fought off competition from 2,000 other applicants to bag a six-month contract with holiday company First Choice. His duties will include traveling the world (fully paid for, natch) and testing water slides. For $34,000 a year.

First Choice, notes MSN Now through gritted teeth, has “Splash World” resorts in locations including Egypt, Turkey, and Ibiza. In his six months with the company, Seb will stay at 20 of the resorts. Says the understandably smug technology student:

“I’m absolutely over the moon to be chosen as the new slide tester – and can’t wait to get started in my new job. I can’t believe I’ll be traveling the world judging slides based on the biggest splash and adrenaline factor.”

Pushing his luck , he continues:

“It’s going to be amazing and I’m really looking forward to being part of the team and to sharing my experiences with holidaymakers via Twitter and Facebook.”

Even the selection process was sickeningly luxurious. Seb was picked after beating five other finalists in a special slide-off at the five-star Iberotel Makadi Saraya hotel in Hurghada, Egypt.

Luke Gaskins, head of Holiday Innovation at First Choice, says:

“We were impressed by his enthusiasm and skills at every stage of our search and at the final it was clear that we’d found the ideal person for the role of slide tester. Seb is going to be a key part of the team who will help us to give our Splash World customers the best all inclusive water park experience possible and we can’t wait for him to get sliding.”

Applicants for the water slider tester job were told they must be “fun-loving, passionate and enthusiastic as well as mad about watermarks,” and also “happy to get wet at work.”
