Since Jason Segel and Michelle Williams were seen early in 2012 holding hands, everyone assumed their main link, Busy Philipps, had played cupid and hooked the pair up. Apparently, we’ve all been fooled.
Now that Busy Philipps is promoting Cougar Town again, she’s clarifying the rumor that she was the mastermind behind one of Hollywood’s most surprising couples. Busy sat down with Anderson Cooper on his show Wednesday, and, when the subject of her friends’ relationship came up, Phillipps shot down the rumor of having anything to do with it, saying:
“The truth is, Jason Segel and I have been friends since we were on Freaks and Geeks together, and Michelle and I have been BFFs for 12 years or something like that. But it wasn’t my doing. I guess I wish I could say it was.”
In January of 2012, Busy Philipps made a few appearances as well as a few comments about her friend Michelle. At the time, her best friend was nominated for an Academy Award for her turn as Marilyn Monroe. During press, Philipps had said she wanted to find love for Williams, and, low and behold, a few weeks later Michelle was seen out and about with Jason Segel.
Even though Busy Philipps didn’t play cupid for the couple as previously believed, she seems to be pretty supportive. During the holiday season Busy, who is expecting her second child with husband Marc Silverstein, went on vacation to Mexico with the couple.
