A Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi solo movie news has been buzzing around the Internet for quite some time and fans may wonder why this flick hasn’t really been a part of the current slate of anthology projects, such as Rogue One and the Han Solo movie. There is an explanation for this reason as there is a ton of things going on in this methodical planning process.

Why The Obi-Wan Hold Up?
Entertainment news writer Anthony Breznican was on a podcast talking about the situation regarding Obi-Wan Kenobi’s role in all of this, according to Collider . The people behind the scenes have the propensity to think decades ahead of time in the franchise planning process, so this may give you an idea that the wheels are turning and according to Breznican he suggested that Kenobi could be incorporated into the current trilogy via Star Wars: Episode 8 and 9 . This further may indicate a major role for Ben Kenobi in the franchise that could plan the solo movie for beyond the last movie in the trilogy.
“I have heard rumors that the one reason they haven’t moved sooner on Obi-Wan is that they’re not done with Obi-Wan quite yet in the saga films. So I wouldn’t be surprised to see an Obi-Wan [solo film] happen beyond Episode IX .”
Will Ben Kenobi Be Incorporated In The Current Star Wars Trilogy?
Breznican writes for Entertainment Weekly and has close ties with Lucasfilm production members. That said, the validity of these rumors could be rather firm than most.
This wasn’t the first time this was brought up. In March Collider’s own Steve Weintraub talked with Ewan McGregor and had asked the prequel trilogy actor if the studios had been in talks with him about a Ben Kenobi flick. McGregor went on to say he would indeed like to do another one and thought the most appropriate movie for his character would occur between Star Wars 3 and 4 . Something that would “bridge” over between himself and the role of Sir Alec Guinness.
When Ewan addressed the topic of actually being in talks with Lucasfilm about the Ben Kenobi movie, McGregor grinned.
“I’m not sure I’m at liberty to say, really, but I’m very interested in doing that. That would be great. Maybe there’s even a trilogy! ( laughs ).”
Later in the interview, when Ewan was asked about playing a force ghost in Episodes 8 and 9, he said he really couldn’t figure out how the crew would work with his younger self when it’s more in the lap of the older Guinness version of Ben.
Kristian Harloff of Collider’s Jedi Council was pretty confident that Ewan McGregor had met with Lucasfilm. Harloff continued to say when it was first announced that solo anthology movies were going to be produced, quite a few names came up such as Boba Fett, a young Yoda, Han Solo, etc. The one that came up most frequently was that of an Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars movie.
There was also a matter of the repeated “trilogy” comments Ewan made during the interview which now could reference the aforementioned comment made by Breznican regarding Lucasfilm possibly incorporating the character.
Not only that, Ewan is excited about the idea and he met with J.J. Abrams to use his voice in Star Wars: The Force Awakens . So there’s really no reason not to bring Ewan back on board. So hopefully the Entertainment Weekly writer’s connections are pretty firm on their rumors.
