Members-Only Marijuana Clubs Popping Up In Colorado

At 4:20 pm on Monday, nearly 200 people in Denver, Colorado paid $29.99 to join the states first bring-your-own pot club. Club 64 is one of two Colorado clubs to take advantage of the states new legalization of marijuana.

Club owner Chloe Villano proclaims to the Associated Press:

“Look at this! We were so scared because we didn’t want it to be crazy. But this is crazy! People want this.”

The Denver Post recently announced the opening of a second club in the Colorado town of Del Norte.

In Colorado, it is still illegal to consume pot in public, and the state does have smoke-free laws. However, the club’s attorney says the establishments are legal because they don’t actually sell marijuana.

Club 64 doesn’t currently have an established meeting place, instead choosing to find different locations each month. To attend an event, members pay $29.99 per meeting and can show up for as many gatherings as they wish.

In true pot smoking fashion, the meetings include snacks such as Goldfish and Cheetos. Those snacks are in honor of Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, who during the night of the marijuana vote, told happy pot smokers:

“Don’t break out the Cheetos or Goldfish too quickly.”

In many cases, the new clubs are the only outlet some pot smokers have as landlords and local ordinances have made it hard for some pot smokers to take part in their now legal activity.

Analysts predicted that the legalization of marijuana would generate billions of dollars in new opportunities. If early business ventures are any indication, they may be correct in that assumption.
