A man in Indiana has been arrested with 47 guns in Indiana after he allegedly made a threat to a local elementary school.
According to News 9 , Cedar Lake Police arrested 60-year-old Von I. Meyer early on Friday morning after he threatened to light his wife on fire. Police said that Meyer was also threatening to shoot up Jane Ball Elementary School.
Meyer allegedly said that he wanted to “kill as many people as he could.”
Wish TV reports that police arrested Meyer with 47 guns and ammunition at his home. Police estimated that the total price of his arsenal was over $100,000.
Meyer was charged with “felony intimidation” on Sunday.
It’s unclear how police found out about Meyer’s alleged plan to shoot up Jane Ball Elementary School but it’s easy to see why the world is being extra cautious about school shootings. A few days ago, a 20-year-old man shot and killed 26 people at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut. The majority of the victims during that incident were under the age of 7-years-old.
CBS News reports that officials are worried that the man in Indiana isn’t the only one who may try to imitate the school shooting in Connecticut. Officials are worried about the Werther Effect, a “copy-cat mechanism and they say their studies show it’s particularly powerful on adolescents.”
Meyer didn’t get the chance to follow through on his threat but there have been other deadly shootings this week in addition to the Newtown, Conn. school shooting. There have also been shootings at malls in Oregon and California .
