As I was trying to get caught up from being out of commission for a day or two I came across this story in one of my feeds. It was a post by Nathan Hodge on the Danger Room blog about some soldiers in Afghanistan who have try to bring a little humanity to man’s best friend in a war torn country. It reminded me of a post I wrote a while back on my personal blog about a soldier who went beyond the call of duty to save a dog; Nubbs, who had followed him over 70 miles in a war torn country.
It turns out that this love and caring for the canine species isn’t just limited to a single soldier as the marines of B Company during their deployment to the Helmand Province have done their best to bring some semblance of normalcy to a bunch of stray dogs. Apparently this pack of stray dogs have returned the favour by going out on patrol with the soldiers taking point and sniffing out any signs of danger. The Marines reward their adopted canine friends by sharing their MREs and water rations with them; which is most cases is the best care these animals have probably seen in a long time.
For many of the Marines stationed there the dogs have helped to make the soldier’s lives in the battlefield a little more bearable. As with Nubbs from the previous story one of B Company’s dogs has also found himself a home on the web with his very own MySpace page .
