The Talk co-hosts went on screen with no makeup Monday morning for the show’s season premiere, donning nothing but bathrobes as they took the stage without allowing their stylists to do their hair or makeup.
Co-hosts Julie Chen, Aisha Tyler, Sharon Osbourne, Sara Gilbert, and Sheryl Underwood, opted for the daring premiere on Monday in order to promote the return of the daytime talk show, reports The Christian Post .
The ladies confessed during the show that they all considered cheating, but were forewarned that actress Jamie Lee Curtis would be present with makeup wipes, should any of them so much as powder their faces. Sara Gilbert, who is considered by her co-hosts as the “most vain” on the show, has been credited with the idea.
Tyler, who mentioned that her husband laughed at her attempts to improve her skin with cucumber, stated:
“I was trying to think about something that wasn’t really [cheating]. Something reflective like a shimmer or a shine, like what could we all get away with. My husband was like ‘just get a whole cucumber and put that thing all over your face.’”
Gilbert added that she considered a chemical peel before the show, but insisted that, “I was not cheating, I never was going to cheat,” even though Perry suggested they “all had ideas about cheating” before the show.
Gilbert stated of their decision to go on set wearing nothing but bathrobes:
“There’s not [many people] that would go on TV in front of millions of people with no makeup, so to be in a group of people that are willing to do that together is really cool. It shows that we’re willing to show parts of our lives that not everybody is willing to show. We really are girlfriends and because we feel safe with each other, we’re willing to show more of ourselves to the public.”
People notes that the hosts of the The Talk walked on stage with their hands covering their faces, but eventually revealed their makeup-free faces to the audience, who also chose not to wear makeup. For the premiere, Jamie Lee Curtis, as well as The Young and the Restless stars Melody Scott Thomas and Michelle Stafford, also went on The Talk with no makeup.
