A “rolling gun battle” in Las Vegas has killed at least three people and injured several others, local news sources are reporting.

The “rolling gun battle” in Las Vegas occurred early this morning in the Strip area, and initial reports indicate that a multi-vehicle crash resulted from the gunfire. One local news source has scant information on the fatal shots or what may have precipitated it, but says:

“Metro Police say three people are dead and at least three more injured from a shooting on Las Vegas Boulevard near Flamingo Road … Flamingo is closed between I-15 and Audrie Street. Las Vegas Blvd. is closed from Caesars Palace to Paris. Drivers should use Spring Mountain Road, Desert Inn Road, Tropicana Avenue, or Harmon Avenue instead of Flamingo and Koval Lane.”

A local ABC affiliate reports upon the “rolling gun battle,” but little has been disclosed by Las Vegas Metro Police thus far to explain why the term continues to be used in media accounts of the Vegas shootings.

At least one account of the Vegas rolling gun battle indicates the shooting may have been between moving vehicles, and a tweet read:

ABC reports:

“[Las Vegas Metro Police] Sgt. John Sheahan says five vehicles were involved in the crash, including a taxi that burst into flames and killed two people around 4:30 a.m. Thursday at Flamingo and Las Vegas boulevards … Sheahan says people in a Maserati and an SUV were exchanging gunfire before the Maserati hit the taxi.”

The three dead in the rolling gun battle on the Vegas strip were not identified by name, age or gender, but police confirm the driver of the taxi, a passenger in the taxi and the driver of the Maserati were all killed during the incident early this morning.

The rolling gun battle in Vegas is the latest unpleasant incident for the tourist town, following a Vegas theater shooting as well as a murder suicide at the Excalibur Hotel and Casino in recent months .
