President Barack Obama is considered the smartest guy in the room at least according to the mainstream or elite media . Maybe he is, but he nonetheless had some issues recently while campaigning in Florida.

The president apparently was unable to figure out how to use the iPhone touchscreen and appeared “befuddled” when he tried to call some campaign workers according to the Washington Times :

But when White House trip director Marvin Nicholson handed the president his personal iPhone, Mr. Obama couldn’t get it to work. A reporter who witnessed the scene said the president looked “befuddled.”

“It’s not clear he knows how to dial on an iPhone,” the reporter wrote in a pool report.

Earlier in Florida, the president said at a rally that he wants to create a million new manufacturing jobs over the next four years “stamped with three proud words: Made in the USA .” The Made in the USA phrase consists of four words, however. In 2008, then VP-candidate Joe Biden, who has a history of gaffes, referred to “jobs” as a three -letter word.

Regardless of political party, candidates who are campaigning around the clock are likely to say odd things in part due to fatigue, so it’s not a big deal, but it does seem that the media gives Team Obama much more slack than their rivals. None of this would be all that significant either perhaps except that the Obama campaign blasted Sen. John McCain in 2008 for being tech challenged, forgetting that the senator, a former POW, didn’t use a keyboard often because of severe Vietnam War injuries to his arms.

Separately, in an interview with Bob Woodward for his book about last year’s debt ceiling struggle, according to ABC News , the president referred to GOP VP Candidate Paul Ryan as “Jack” Ryan. Jack Ryan was the hero of Tom Clancy’s spy books as well as the name of the GOP candidate that was going to run against Obama in the 2004 US Senate campaign in Illinois until he dropped out. Jack Ryan was actually favored in the election until Obama’s media allies went to California and convinced a judge to unseal Ryan’s embarrassing divorce file; Ryan had been married to “Seven of Nine” Star Trek: Voyager actress Jeri Ryan.
