Former President George H.W. Bush has left the intensive care unit where he was under constant supervision for the last week. The former US President is now under regular observation at the same Houston hospital where he has remained for more than one month.

The 88-year-old Bush was admitted on November 23 to Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. Bush was suffering form a bronchitis-like cough at the time of his admittance. While under observation, the former POTUS developed a persistent and increasing fever that worried his doctors.

To rebuild his strength, George H.W. Bush was placed on a strict liquid diet and was admitted to the hospitals ICU.

According to Bush spokesman Jim McGrath, the former President was moved from the ICU to a regular private room over the weekend. Doctors examined George Bush and determined his health was stable. McGrath notes:

“The Bushes thank everyone for their prayers and good wishes.”

The former POTUS didn’t exactly have a typical stay at the Houston hospital. To lift his spirits, The Oak Ridge Boys called the former President and sang Elvira and Amazing Grace. The special song performances were arranged by first lady Barbara Bush. The Bush family and The Oak Ridge Boys have been friends for many years.

Bush also suffers from Parkinson’s disease, a condition that has forced him into a wheelchair. Doctors were worried that his worsening condition mixed with his Parkinson’s disease could have led to further complications.

George H.W. Bush is not out of the woods yet, and we’ll keep you updated as more information proceeds this story.
